This summer our youth SERVE we will be traveling to Fort McMurray, in northern Alberta, to join their ministry for a week of SERVE. Two other youth groups from churches in Ontario will be joining us. This decision was made in concert with the Youth Ministry Team, Pastor Ed, and the folks at Youth Unlimited. There is no cut and dried reason for this decision except that there was a perfect storm that God was evidently working in. With all the moving parts of Youth Unlimited’s ministry, and a much larger group of people who signed up to come, we either had to start culling our list of participants or change locations; and we decided to move our SERVE trip to Fort Mac so everyone could still attend. If you would like to hear the longer version of the story, please reach out and I would be happy to share more if you haven’t heard all the details already. This is an exciting change, allowing us to travel further, meet different people, see a different city, and most importantly, serve a hurting city with deep needs. We will be spending our time in Fort Mac helping to rebuild after the devastating 2016 wildfire. From what I have been told, nearly all of the buildings have been rebuilt, but most lives are still in turmoil, reeling from the after-effects of the fire. We will be working with Evergreen CRC to help homeowners finish rebuilding their homes with projects like landscaping, painting, etc.. and we will also be partnering with local organizations to help rebuild community programs like community gardens. These details are still being sorted by the host church in Evergreen CRC, but that is what we can expect.
