The church does not just have Deacons, but is, by its very nature and calling, a diaconate. The word diaconate comes from the word diakonia which means service or ministry. The deacons serve the congregation by motivating and mobilizing us 'to act justly and to love mercy. (Micah 6:8)

Our 10 member Deacon ministry team model, demonstrate and encourage Willoughby Church in the following four areas of Christian ministry:

  • Compassion: modeling and demonstrating compassion to those who are hurting with words of hope and actions for encouragement
  • Community Involvement: modeling and encouraging us to be engaged in community ministry in our local community through organizations such as the Gateway of Hope.
  • Justice: modeling and encouraging us to be advocates for and with the marginalized and vulnerable people in our community and the world around us.
  • Stewardship: encouraging us to be stewards of God's creation and to practice authentic stewardship with our time, talents and treasures (money).
