Some of us want the Christian religion to be a soft warm hug. And sometimes it is. At other times, however, it is a call to arms. Christians today don’t much like to think of themselves being stationed on a battlefield, and shrink from military associations. But, the reality of this world according to Scripture is that it is, as C.S. Lewis once put it, ‘enemy-occupied territory’.

The question is not, then, whether the Christian is engaged in battle: we are; an Enemy is out to ruin us. The question is whether we are prepared and ready to fight the battle we are already in—against the ‘powers and principalities of this dark world’.

For this, insists Paul, we need to get suited up in the full armour of God. It is an armour, as we will see in this series, that will enable us ‘when the days of evil come’ to ‘stand our ground’ with love and joy and courage, and ‘after we have done everything’, ‘to stand’.

Please read—and meditatively pray through—Ephesians 6:10-18 in preparation for this mini-series.
