The movie "Hellbound" is a feature-length documentary that takes an in-depth look at today's highly contentious debate over the Christian doctrine of eternal punishment. Kevin Miller, the film's writer and director will be joining us to be available for a question and answer period after the movie. Check the website www.hellboundthemovie.com for more information.

Willoughby Church is going Hellbound!

The cursed reality of our traditional beliefs about hell is that they limit and define the Christian community. In a pointed film Kevin Miller drags us through the absurdity and possibly unbiblical nature of hell and invites us to consider a larger issue. The movie voices views from a humbling array of experts — theological stiffs and irreverent heavy-metal bangers and in fast-paced clips bares some    convincing historical evidence that “hell” is a relatively recent construct that   perhaps as Jay Stone asserts, “owes some of its lore to the valley of Gehenna, near Jerusalem, where the bodies of children were burned. “ One theologian points out that “hell” is not mentioned at all in the Old Testament.

Underlying the debunking of Hell is a plea for a new compassion that speaks a politically correct sounding prophecy against much of Christendom. The          underlying reason for seeing the film and discussing the topic is to hear the   judgmental voices of our times and hear what the spirit has to say to us as church. The New York Times labeled the film as substantive and evenhanded.

Hellbound is a movie that pleads for a new way of speaking more than it pleads for a point of view. The juxtaposition of harsh fundamental judgmentalism with accepting compassion is worth the price of admission! Becoming a little more loving is worth a few hours. The added bonus is that the director, Kevin Miller will be in attendance after the screening for a Q&A session. Join us Friday evening for a mental stretch at the intersection of Faith and Reason.
