There are over 200 active fires and more than 14,000 people have been forced to leave their homes.

Mike Hoyer, World Renew Disaster Response Services (DRS) area representative for British Columba, reports that organizations local to the fire areas including provincial agencies and other disaster response organizations are caring for the needs of evacuees.

“There are many details to work out, but a major area of focus for World Renew DRS is making sure that the most vulnerable fire survivors receive care. Many affected by the wildfires will probably have insurance to help with their recovery but those who don’t will need extra assistance down the road, long after the fires have died out. These are the individuals and families World Renew DRS seeks to help,” said Hoyer.

World Renew DRS is connecting with local government and non-profit response efforts in British Columbia to begin planning for long-term disaster recovery.

Your donations to North American Disasters 2017 are welcome and will support those affected by these fires.
